Testimonial #5

TESTIMONIAL FOR ACUPUNCTURIST STEVE COLLINS

A friend of mine referred me to Steve Collins. She had recently been experiencing much better health and energy after going to his appointments and following his dietary recommendations. She said he could probably help me, too. I had been struggling with unexplained rashes, extreme fatigue, mood swings, irritability, and frequent bouts of diarrhea.

I was not inclined to make an appointment, since my previous experience with acupuncture had been disappointing. My previous acupuncturist had been a native of China and had studied there. My appointments with her were painful, expensive, and puzzling. I could not understand her very well and I was not clear on what our treatment program was achieving. I endured them for a while, hoping things would improve. They did, somewhat, but I decided the pain was not worth it.

Weary of the pain, but wanting the improved health my friend had, I finally called for an appointment when I was in the midst of an awful rash break out. I was pleasantly surprised. Most of the time, the insertion of the needles DID NOT HURT! Steve bragged that he used some of the thinnest, most expensive needles available (from Europe, I think).

I was grateful—not only for how thin they were, but also for his gentle technique—I did not feel jabbed. His placement of the needles was mostly quick and painless. He seemed to have an extremely accurate, intuitive sense of where the insertion points were.

In addition, he is an American and English is his first language. He is very easy to talk to and encourages questions. He is professional, yet compassionate. I feel unconditionally accepted as I am, and feel he has a great respect for the healing process unique to each individual. This terrific ability to communicate and to listen empathetically has been an enormously beneficial part of the healing process for me. I do better when I understand what is happening in my body and why. Steve was able to explain to me which energy imbalances were occurring in my body and how the treatments were designed to help correct them. He answered every question I had and encouraged me to call him if I had more.

He also suggested dietary changes that would help prevent the rashes. I was skeptical (how could cucumbers “cool off” my chi and calm the rash?) However, he was right. The food recommendations did work.  It took great discipline to avoid certain “hot” foods and seek out the “cool” foods, but I was pleased with the results. Whenever I “cheated”, I suffered the consequences (e.g. rashes and diarrhea).

Best of all, Steve was able to diagnose and treat a systemic yeast infection that had been troubling me off and on for years. He even suggested some Tai Chi exercises to help relax me and strengthen my immune system. The combination of acupuncture, diet changes, Tui Na, and some Chinese herbs all worked to help heal me. Steve is a very gifted healer: using Chinese medicine and his uncanny intuition, he has helped me reclaim my energy and my health.
