Tui Na and Cupping
|
Tuina means to "push and to hold". It is a form of
bodywork that is more profound in experience and results than massage.
Tui Na involves gentle techniques
which allow the body to "realign" itself. It allows for optimal
flow of qi and blood. Sometimes there are pops and clicks as the
body becomes rebalanced. There are no rapid thrusting movements
and no work is performed directly on the spine.
Tui Na feels good and does not hurt.
As
part of his training, Steven Collins took a special apprenticeship
under a recognized Tui Na practitioner. As the only student
apprentice, Steven was able to learn otherwise untaught techniques.
Later, Steven coupled these techniques with his knowledge of
anatomy and developed his own system of Tui Na which he calls "Dynamic
Tui Na".
Cupping
Cupping
is a form of therapy in which glass cups are placed on the body to help draw
out toxins. They stay on the body because of suction created by
burning a piece of paper before placing the cup on the body.
Although cupping produces circular bruises, the patient is
not burned and there is no pain. Many times, the cups are placed
over needles to produce a maximum effect.
Cupping can be used for such conditions as:
- Muscle spasms
- Fever
- Back Pain
- Constipation
